Android TV devices and Chromecast with Google TV can run out of storage surprisingly fast because the usable internal space is tiny compared with a phone.
Short answer: start with streaming-app cache, downloaded content, and any screensaver or ambient-mode extras before you uninstall everything. On these devices, a few bloated apps can consume a huge percentage of the total storage.
Why this happens so easily
Many Android TV devices only have a small amount of real free space, so even moderate buildup from:
- YouTube
- Netflix
- Prime Video
- Disney+
- screensaver apps
can make the whole system feel cramped.
The safest first cleanup
Start with app cache:
- open Settings
- go to Apps
- open the heaviest streaming apps first
- use Clear cache, not Clear data
That removes thumbnails and temporary files without signing you out everywhere.
What else is worth checking
After cache, review:
- downloaded episodes or movies
- apps you installed once and forgot
- third-party screensavers or ambient-mode tools
These can matter more on a TV device than on a phone because there is so little headroom to begin with.
When the problem is broader than one app
If one cache clear barely helps, the real issue may be that several streaming apps are all holding onto previews and offline content at the same time.
Treat it like constrained-device cleanup: small storage, high app churn, and very little room for leftovers.
