Gboard storage
Also known as: Gboard cache, Google Keyboard storage, keyboard storage Android
Gboard storage is the space Google’s keyboard uses for downloaded languages, learned-word and prediction data, stickers, GIFs, and emoji caches. It can quietly reach hundreds of megabytes, and most of it is safe cache you can clear.
- Holds languages, learned words, stickers, and GIF cache
- Clear cache is safe; clear data resets the keyboard
- Managed in Settings > Apps > Gboard > Storage
Why it grows
Gboard downloads dictionaries for each language you add, builds a personal dictionary from your typing for better predictions, and caches the stickers, GIFs, and emoji it shows in the toolbar. Over time these add up.
Check its footprint in Settings > Apps > Gboard > Storage, which separates the app size from its cache and user data.
What’s safe to clear
Tapping Clear cache removes temporary sticker and GIF caches and is completely safe — Gboard re-downloads them as needed. Tapping Clear data is more drastic: it resets the keyboard to defaults and erases your learned words and downloaded languages, so you would re-add them.
For routine cleanup, clear cache only. Use clear data only if the keyboard is misbehaving and you are willing to lose its personalization.
