Safari Website Data
Also known as: Safari cache, clear Safari history, website data iPhone
Safari Website Data is the cache, cookies, and local files websites store on your device to load faster and remember you. Clearing it is safe and reclaims space, but it signs you out of sites and removes saved browsing state.
- Cache, cookies, and local site files
- Clearing it signs you out of websites
- Bookmarks and Reading List are not affected
What websites store
As you browse, sites save cached images and scripts, cookies, and local databases so they load quickly and keep you logged in. Over time this builds up and contributes to Safari’s share of System Data on iOS.
You can review it in Settings > Safari > Advanced > Website Data, which lists how much each site stores. Removing it does not delete bookmarks or your Reading List.
How to clear it
Use Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data to wipe history, cookies, and caches in one step, or remove individual sites from the Website Data list. The trade-off is that you will be logged out of sites and they will load fresh the next time you visit.
