TRP / TS recording
Also known as: TRP file, transport stream recording, HDTV recording, .trp video
TRP is a transport-stream video file, typically a digital or HDTV broadcast recording captured by a set-top box or smart TV. It is a variant of the MPEG transport stream (.ts) used for over-the-air and cable recordings.
- Transport-stream HDTV/broadcast recording
- Saved by many TVs, PVRs, and set-top boxes
- Large files; convert to MP4 for compatibility
Broadcast recordings
A TRP file is essentially a transport stream, the packetized format used to broadcast digital TV. Many TVs, PVRs, and set-top boxes save recorded programs as .trp, bundling video, audio, and sometimes subtitles into one stream.
Because it captures broadcast video, a TRP recording can be large, especially for HD content.
Playing and converting
VLC and FFmpeg generally play and convert TRP files. Converting to MP4 makes recordings smaller and far more compatible with phones and editing software.
Some TRP files use broadcast encryption or quirks that may need the original device to play.
