About this gpa calculator

Add each course with its letter grade and credit hours, and the calculator produces the credit-weighted GPA the way registrars compute it: grade points times credits, summed, divided by total credits. The full plus and minus scale is built in (A- is 3.7, B+ is 3.3), the intermediate numbers, total credits and total grade points, are shown so the arithmetic is checkable, and nothing you type is stored or sent anywhere. One honest caveat: institutions differ at the edges, some award 4.3 for an A+ and some skip minus grades, so for anything official the transcript wins.

FAQ

Common questions

Short answers for the questions people usually have before trying a utility like this.

How is GPA calculated?

Each grade maps to points (A is 4.0, B is 3.0, and so on), each course’s points are multiplied by its credit hours, the products are summed, and the sum is divided by total credit hours. A 3-credit A and a 1-credit C average to 3.5, not 3.0, which is why credits matter.

What is a good GPA?

Above 3.0 is solid, 3.5 and up is strong for most graduate programs, and 3.7 or higher is typically honors territory. Context matters more than the number: course difficulty and trend both count.

Does this handle weighted high-school GPAs (5.0 scale)?

Not directly; it computes on the standard 4.0 scale. AP and honors weighting schemes vary so much between schools that a single calculator would be wrong more often than right.

Why does my result differ from my transcript?

Edge rules: some institutions cap A+ at 4.0 (as this tool does), others award 4.3; some ignore minus grades; some exclude pass/fail credits. The transcript applies your school’s exact rules.

Is anything I enter stored?

No. The calculation runs in your browser and the page forgets everything on reload.
