About this pace converter

The Pace Converter turns a running pace into a speed, or a speed into a pace, in your browser. Because pace (time per distance) is the mathematical inverse of speed (distance per time), a simple factor table gives wrong answers; this tool converts every value through a canonical metres-per-second base so the inversion is always correct. Enter a pace like 5 min/km and read it instantly as km/h, mph, m/s or min/mile. Nothing is uploaded and it works offline.

FAQ

Common questions

Short answers for the questions people usually have before trying a utility like this.

How do I convert min/km to km/h?

Speed is the inverse of pace, so 1 kilometre at a pace of P minutes equals 60/P km/h. For example, 5 min/km is 12 km/h. Enter your pace and the converter does the inversion for you.

Why can't pace be converted with a simple multiplier?

Pace measures time per distance while speed measures distance per time, so they are inversely related. Doubling your speed halves your pace. This tool converts through a metres-per-second base so pace and speed always match up correctly.

What is a good 5 min/km pace in mph?

A pace of 5 min/km is about 7.46 mph, or 12 km/h. Enter any pace to see the equivalent in mph, km/h and m/s side by side.
