How to use the Pomodoro timer
Press Start and the timer counts down 25 minutes of focus, switches to a 5 minute break on its own, and then returns to focus. The current phase is labelled above the clock, and Reset takes you back to a fresh focus period.
The technique works because the boundaries are hard, and the boundaries here are visual only: there is no sound and no notification. Keep the timer where you can see it, and if you are following the full method, keep count of your pomodoros so you can take the long break after the fourth one.
- Press Start to begin a 25 minute focus phase.
- Work until the clock hits zero, at which point the timer switches to a 5 minute break by itself.
- Keep the tab visible, since the phase change is silent and hidden tabs are throttled.
- Count your own cycles and take a longer break of 15 to 30 minutes after four focus phases.
- Press Reset to return to a fresh focus phase at any point.
