About this target heart rate calculator

Karvonen uses heart rate reserve, the gap between maximum and resting: target = resting + (max − resting) × intensity. Age 35 gives a max of 185; with a resting pulse of 65 the reserve is 120, so 70% is 65 + 84 = 149 bpm. Because it includes resting heart rate, it fits fit and unfit people better than a flat percentage of max.

How do I measure my resting heart rate?

Count your pulse for 60 seconds right after waking, before getting up, on three mornings, and average them.
