PDB (Palm/ebook)
Also known as: .pdb file, Palm Database, Palm ebook, PalmDOC
PDB (Palm Database) is a container format from Palm OS used for many things, including ebooks read in apps like eReader and PalmDOC. As an ebook format it is legacy, and books are usually converted to EPUB or MOBI.
- Palm OS database container, also used for ebooks
- PalmDOC / eReader books are a legacy use
- Convert DRM-free files to EPUB or MOBI
What PDB is
PDB was the general database/record format on Palm OS handhelds, holding anything from app data to documents. For reading, formats like PalmDOC and eReader packaged books inside a .pdb.
Because PDB is a generic container, two .pdb files can hold completely different content. As an ebook, it dates back to the Palm era and is now uncommon.
Reading PDB ebooks
A modern e-reader or conversion tool can turn a DRM-free ebook .pdb into EPUB or MOBI. The right approach depends on which sub-format the file actually uses.
PDB ebooks are tiny text files, so they cost no real storage. Convert them only to read them on current devices.
