How to use ASCII Table

About this ascii table

ASCII assigns the numbers 0-127 to characters: 0-31 and 127 are control codes (10 is line feed, 13 carriage return, 27 escape), 32 is the space, 48-57 the digits, 65-90 the capitals and 97-122 lowercase. Uppercase and lowercase differ by exactly 32, one bit: A is 65 (0x41, 01000001) and a is 97 (0x61, 01100001). Codes 128-255 are not ASCII; the extended view shows Windows-1252, the most common 8-bit extension, where 128 is the euro sign.

FAQ

Common questions

Short answers for the questions people usually have before trying a utility like this.

What is the ASCII code for A?

65 in decimal, 0x41 in hex, 101 in octal, 01000001 in binary. Lowercase a is 97.

Is extended ASCII a standard?

No single one. Codes 128-255 depend on the code page: Windows-1252 in the West, ISO-8859-1 on the early web, CP437 on old DOS PCs. Unicode (UTF-8) replaced them; its first 128 code points are identical to ASCII.
