How to deep-fry an image
Deep-frying is the deliberate destruction of an image: crank the saturation and contrast until colors clip, sharpen until halos appear, add grain, and then run it through low quality JPEG compression several times so the block artifacts become part of the picture. The look reads as ironic, over-shared, degraded, which is exactly why it works for memes.
This tool does all of that in one pass on an HTML canvas. Load a picture, drag one slider, and download the JPG. The intensity slider drives every stage together, so 40% gives a mildly cursed photo and 100% gives an unrecognizable orange smear.
- Choose an image file. Anything the browser can decode works, and images over 1000px are downscaled to 1000px first.
- Drag the fry level slider between 10% and 100% and watch the canvas update live.
- Press Re-randomize if you want a different noise pattern at the same intensity.
- Click Download JPG to save the result as deep-fried.jpg.
