FAQ

Common questions

Short answers for the questions people usually have before trying a utility like this.

Is the RMD Calculator free?

Yes. It is completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark, and no usage limits.

Does it use a specific currency?

No. Amounts are currency-neutral and use the same unit across all inputs, so it works in any country.

How is the RMD calculated?

Divide the account balance on December 31 of last year by the IRS distribution period for your age this year. At 75 the factor is 24.6, so a $500,000 balance means an RMD of $20,325.20.

When do RMDs start?

Under SECURE 2.0, at age 73 (rising to 75 for people born in 1960 or later). The Uniform Lifetime Table applies unless your sole beneficiary is a spouse more than 10 years younger. Roth IRAs have no RMDs for the original owner.
