How to use Speaker Test

What the tool does, how to run it, and what to expect from the result.

About this speaker test

The page asks the browser how many output channels your system reports and shows a button for each: front left, front right, centre, subwoofer (LFE) and the surround pair on 5.1, plus rear speakers on 7.1. Each plays pink noise from that one speaker, so a swapped wire or a wrong receiver channel map is obvious. Stereo systems get left, right, bass, sweep and phase tests.

FAQ

Common questions

Short answers for the questions people usually have before trying a utility like this.

Why does it only show two speakers?

Browsers expose the channel count your operating system reports. Set the output to 5.1 or 7.1 in Windows Sound settings or macOS Audio MIDI Setup, then reload the page.

Why is the subwoofer quiet?

The LFE channel carries only low frequencies, and many receivers send it to the subwoofer only when bass management is on. Check the subwoofer setting and crossover.
