  • Use the device's real draw, not the nameplate. A 65 W power supply rarely pulls 65 W, and a fridge rated at 150 W cycles on and off, so its daily average is far below its rating.
  • Standby adds up across a house. A device idling at 3 W for 24 hours uses 0.072 kWh a day, about 26 kWh a year, which is trivial alone and real across a dozen devices.
  • Enter your all-in rate, not the energy-only line on the bill. Delivery, network, and standing charges often push the true cost per kWh well above the headline supply rate.

Multiply the daily cost line by 365 yourself. Do not multiply the monthly line by 12, because that assumes a 360-day year and will read about 1.4% low.

Can it handle peak and off-peak tariffs?

No. It takes a single price per kWh. To approximate a time-of-use tariff, run the device once at the peak rate for the hours it runs during peak, then again at the off-peak rate for the remaining hours, and add the two daily costs.

Which rate on my bill should I enter?
