How to use Mouse Test

What the tool does, how to run it, and what to expect from the result.

About this mouse test

Click each button inside the test area: it lights up and counts, including the side Back and Forward buttons that many testers miss. The right-click menu and middle-click scrolling are blocked inside the box so every press registers. Move the mouse quickly in circles to estimate the polling rate from the movement reports the browser receives: 125, 500 and 1,000 Hz are common settings.

FAQ

Common questions

Short answers for the questions people usually have before trying a utility like this.

How do I check my mouse polling rate?

Move the mouse fast and continuously inside the box and read the highest rate. Browsers may cap reporting, so a 4,000 or 8,000 Hz mouse can read lower here than in its own software.

Why do my side buttons not register?

Some mouse software remaps them to shortcuts, and Safari on macOS does not pass them to web pages. Try another browser or reset the mapping.
